RDDF 2004

The Route Description Data File (RDDF) is the only information supplied to the AGVs (Autonomous unmanned Ground Vehicles) that discloses the DARPA Grand Challenge route.  Each route section is specified with the next “way point” latitude and longitude, the “lateral boundary offset” (how far the vehicle is allowed right/left of the center line), and the speed limit for that section. By the DARPA Grand Challenge 2004 rules, the RDDF was supplied two hours prior to start of the race.

STOP: 0mph = Finish Line

LBO: Lateral Boundary Offset (feet) - Corridor is 2x LBO. [DARPA  Explanation]
MPH: Speed limit for this section (mph).
H:M:S: Drop dead time. Vehicle MUST cross this point by this time or be eliminated.

NOTE: It appears that the DARPA Grand Challenge 2005 rules remove the H:M:S time fields from the RDDF.

The following ”official” RDDF files were received directly from the DARPA Grand Challenge staff.

DARPA's Notice:  The route lies within private property and on environmentally sensitive public lands.  DARPA does not endorse use of the route or areas adjacent to the route.  DARPA cautions all holders of the Event RDDF that the U.S. Bureau of Land Management and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service have established detailed rules and regulations regarding the use of public lands. These rules should be followed at all times.
